Timeframe: This is an 8-week class, meeting once weekly for 2-hour class blocks (16 total hours)
Skill Level: Beginner
Pre-requisite: Please ensure your machine is in good working order prior to the first day of class. Ask me if you need recommendations for purchasing new or servicing an older sewing machine.
Have a sewing machine and not sure how to use it? Want to save money and make or modify your own clothes? This hands-on class will teach you all you need to begin sewing and also how to maintain your machine. My goal is “frustration free” sewing and building core sewing skills. Learn these life skills while creating a personalized apron and watch your confidence grow with every stitch.
Sewing can be overwhelming at first when you have a machine sitting in front of you. Learning not only “how” things work, but “why” certain aspects require different settings, needles, or fabric will help sewing make sense to you!
My custom curriculum includes content on everything from fiber to fabric, machine maintenance and troubleshooting, to reading and fitting patterns to your measurements. Next, we transition to project planning, selecting the right tools for the job, and learning many types of construction techniques while you sew.
Homework: yes -- usually finishing tasks from class, or working on your project to meet a goal
